Welcome to Escalante's Vagabond Inn—A Unique Lodging Opportunity!

Exterior view of the historic Vagabond Inn

You have the entire house to yourself!

The Vagabond Inn is one of Escalante's most unique lodging options. It's an historic inn in the heart of Escalante, at the gateway to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and surrounded by Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and thousands of acres of national forest, wilderness area and several state parks. Furthermore, we are centrally located within 200 miles of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley and more!

The Vagabond Inn is a unique place. The house itself is over 100 years old, and is one of the original pioneer houses built in Escalante. You will have the entire 2200 square foot, 3 bedroom house to yourself. Note: there is only 1 bathroom, and no air-conditioning. The setup is perfect for several couples, a larger family, or groups. The kitchen is completely outfitted and available for your use. You will have full communications capabilities, including phone, fax and free wireless networking and internet access (provided across the street at our Esca-Latte Internet Cafe). We are dog-friendly. We are sure you'll find us one of the best lodging options in town, and and that this will beat any hotel or motel experience hands down!

The Vagabond Inn has some of the best views of Escalante Canyon in town (check out the pictures in the header bar). So when you're not out exploring the monument, you can relax to a view to die for. We're sure you're not going to find any hotel, motel or other lodging option like this!

For meals, you have a fully equipped kitchen for your use. And walk across the street to our sister facility, Escalante Outfitters' Esca-Latte Cafe for fresh roasted coffees, espresso, and more. Esca-Latte has great food (we are always getting compliments) and great ambiance. We're sure you'll love it!

What others are saying (www.tripadvisor.com)
In February 2005 my husband Jim and I stayed in the Vagabond Inn in Escalante. It is actually a historical house owned by Escalante Outfitters, a quarter mile down the road. When you stay at the Inn you actually get an entire house! It has a downstairs bedroom with a queen size bed and two huge bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen bed and a twin bed.(Sleeps 8 comfortably). There is a full bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room. The back patio has a grill you can use as well. It would be a great place to stay with an extended family. The big kitchen is the best-equipped I have ever seen in a rental unit; TONS of plates, glasses, goblets, cooking equipment, etc. The house has a 60's sort of atmosphere; kind of like staying at your aunt's place while she's out of town. It is very clean and the living room is comfy with a huge sofa and chair, t.v., VCR, etc. There is a lot to do in the Escalante area including snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, exploring slot canyons and waterfalls. In winter you have every hiking trail to yourselves. The Calf Creek trail leads to great waterfalls, and if you sign in at the trail head you can pick up a brochure that points out neat things along the way, like petroglyphs and a food cache built by the Ancient Ones. The scenery is spectacular and the people in the town are very friendly and helpful. Steve Roberts, owner of The Vagabond Inn and Escalante Outfitters, recently purchased these properties and has worked hard to make them first-rate. Jim and I highly recommend this area in the winter. It's great year-round, but in winter you can really appreciate the solitude. You can enjoy snow in the higher elevations, drive "down" a couple thousand feet and have balmy weather perfect for hiking. If you have any questions please email me at brighamwriter@yahoo.com.
