The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument area is virtually unexplored in terms of climbing and bouldering... There is some very interesting climbing potential here. Although some of the rock is not very good, there are definitely areas of very climbable rock, and some great bouldering opportunities. And millions of unexplored acres!
Another feature of the area is that you are almost guaranteed to see all kinds of amazing things out here if you keep your eyes open, from petroglyphs, ancient native American artifacts, dinosaur bones, fossils and all kinds of other stuff. Always do your utmost to respect the area, leave it cleaner than you found it, and do not take anything except pictures!

Its even possible to climb here in the winter! We've done a little. The weather is often nice enough to get out for a while. It can get a little chilly, but definitely lots of potential.
As of yet, there are no "official" climbing areas here. Some climbers from Salt Lake City put up about 30 routes somewhere along the Burr Trail. We've explored a little... There appears to be some very good climbing and boulding west of Escalante about 5 - 7 miles along the canyon walls out there.
Let us know what your climbing experiences here are, and we will do our best to return the favor!
Left: Bouldering about 5 miles out of Escalante in the winter. Right: scouting out a potential crack climb at the same location in winter...
