Driving over the "hogback" on Scenic Highway 12 between Escalante and Boulder. This is one exhilarating road! Deep canyons literally on either side. This picture doesn't do it justice. Highway 12 has just been named an All American Highway.

A slot canyon... The monument is famous for its slots.
Part of the "Grand Staircase" from the air; Vermillion Cliffs and the White Cliffs.

Views on the Aquarius Plateau, which is immediately to the North of Escalante, about 10 to 30 minutes. With 10,000 foot elevations, you are guaranteed to find wonderfully cool weather and beautiful mountain lakes even on the hottest days in summer.
The remains of a dinosaur, part of active research ongoing in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
There are incredible paleontological resources here. Remember though, look only and never disrupt or take anything--this will ruin invaluable resources, and the Monument Police are very vigilant.
